Ren Zhengfei, the founder of Huawei, announced that they are confident of exceeding Cisco and Google in the future.

Over the past 23 years, Huawei has developed fast and achieved many great targets as a world-leading telecom solutions provider. It shares a certain market with Cisco and other competitors. Now, as the cloud computing bringing a great revolution in IT industry, Huawei puts aside its mystery and try to promote itself. Indeed, the policy of more communicating with public, media may help Huawei better improve its image as a leader in telecom industry. Cisco VS Huawei VS Google, who will take the first place in the IT field? It’s hard to say, because everyone has its own advantages.

Recently, Cisco also announced that it quit on the Flip to enhance its strongs of telecom solution. It’s obvious that the main competitors among telecom industry try to put most effort on researching more advanced solution to mobile net as the IT industry develop so fast.

Although other competitors such as Huawei, Juniper, Aruba, HP, etc. shared a certain market with Cisco around the world, Cisco’s always sticking to its strong points including supplying networking solution to medium and large enterprises. Cisco’s technology of safety, diversity, meets the medium-to-large sized business’ need.

Nowadays, as the cloud computing technology springs up and mobile telecommunication grows fast, telecom equipment manufacturers including Cisco, Huawei, HP, Microsoft, Brocade, etc. try to adjust its market and technology policies to help themselves better survive in market.

For routers, switches and computers becoming increasingly central to the digitalization of all kinds of industries, so no matter what policy Cisco, Juniper or Huawei takes, they can balance their market in the different aspects. Huawei PK Cisco, no winner, maybe cooperator.

Friendly Environment, Harmonious Communication Required

April 22 2011 , Written by ciscorouterswitch Published on #Cisco Technology - IT News

Today when I open ‘google search’, its ico has been changed into a picture of nature containing rill, waterfall, tree, lake, animals, etc. , the beautiful scene attract us and also remind us of protecting our living environment as well as increasing natural disasters, such as earthquake, tsunami, flood, drought… all of these warn human beings that we need live friendly with world.

Owing to fast social development, it’s obvious that process of urbanization becomes faster and faster, the distance among people is becoming closer and closer. Besides more modern buildings and heavy traffic, another important factor that tightly connect country to city is telecommunication.

Speak of telecommunication, what things will come to you mind? Internet? Media? Or Mobile phones? Indeed, we are engaged in a mobile internet world, more things and problems we can solve through internet. So no matter what industry you take, it’s vital for you to finish work by internet, or other electronic communication, it’s very important for you to communicate with our society, out nature and our world friendly and harmoniously.

For the larger consumption of energy and more serious environmental challenges, actions to handle these may be not too far to everyone or industry. Take some examples, The Envision Charlotte initiative has set a goal of reducing energy use by up to 20 percent within its perimeter through greater education of citizens and use of information technology. BC Hydro in Vancouver just announced that it will roll out 1.8 million smart meters based on Itron’s OpenWay technology, powered by Cisco ( world’s top networking equipment designer, e.g. Cisco router, Cisco switch, have you ever used?), to enable a more efficient grid and foster the use of renewable energy. And the city of Incheon, Korea is building in sustainability from the ground up.

So with the effort of all the human beings, the world, which makes us closer with modern transportation and communication (such as internet, media, newspaper, magazine, etc.), is becoming more harmonious, more comfortable, closer, safer and smarter.

Router? Switch? Be Clear the Difference Between Router and Switch.

April 11 2011 , Written by ciscorouterswitch Published on #Cisco Routers

When someone talk about Cisco router, or Cisco switch with me, I’m very confused about this. Router? Switch? What are they? What are they used for? Oh, My Lady Gaga, complicated.

However, after I have found some details of router and switch, it seems a little interesting. Because both router and switch are tightly related to network, to internet. If you have PCs, if you need to email to somebody, or if you want to chat with friends, they are necessarily contained. Haha, eager to get more information of router and switch. I search many details and “the difference between router and switch” through Google. Now, I’d like share some key info about router and switch.

router-vs-hub-vs-switch.jpg

What’s a router? A router is a more sophisticated network device than either a switch or a hub. It is a device that forwards data packets across computer networks, and perform the data "traffic directing" functions on the Internet. On the Internet or on a large corporate network, for example, routers serve as intermediate destinations for network traffic. These routers receive TCP/IP packets, look inside each packet to identify the source and target IP addresses, then forward these packets as needed to ensure the data reaches its final destination. Routers for home networks (often called broadband routers) also can join multiple networks. These routers are designed specifically to join the home (LAN) to the Internet (WAN) for the purpose of Internet connection sharing. In contrast, neither hubs nor switches are capable of joining multiple networks or sharing an Internet connection.

And switch? A network switch or switching hub is a computer networking device that connects network segments. The term commonly refers to a multi-port network bridge that processes and routes data at the data link layer (layer 2) of the OSI model. By paying attention to the traffic that comes across it, it can "learn" where particular addresses are. For example, if it sees traffic from machine A coming in on port 2, it now knows that machine A is connected to that port and that traffic to machine A needs to only be sent to that port and not any of the others.

The two pieces of equipment (router and switch) look so similar and perform some similar functions, but each has its own distinct function to perform on a network. To be simple, switches create a network. Routers connect networks. A router links computers to the Internet, so users can share the connection. A router acts as a dispatcher, choosing the best path for information to travel so it's received quickly.

So what do you need? A router or switch? After got these above, you can make sure that which you need. And more information of Cisco sale, you can visit RouterSwitch.com

How to Configure Cisco ASA 5505?

April 8 2011 , Written by ciscorouterswitch Published on #Cisco Routers

The Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall is the smallest model in the new 5500 Cisco series of hardware appliances. Although this model is suitable for small businesses, branch offices or even home use, its firewall security capabilities are the same as the biggest models like 5510, 5520, 5540, etc.

The Adaptive Security technology of the ASA firewalls offers solid and reliable firewall protection, advanced application aware security, denial of service attack protection and much more. Moreover, the performance of the ASA 5505 appliance supports 150Mbps firewall throughput and 4000 firewall connections per second, which is more than enough for small networks.

The difference of the 5505 model from the bigger ASA models is that it has an 8-port 10/100 switch which acts as Layer 2 only. That is, you cannot configure the physical ports as Layer 3 ports, rather you have to create interface VlANs and assign the Layer 2 interfaces in each VLAN.

By default, interface Ethernet0/0 is assigned to VLAN 2 and its the outside interface (the one which connects to the Internet), and the other 7 interfaces (Ethernet0/1 to 0/7) are assigned by default to VLAN 1 and are used for connecting to the internal network.

Basic Steps to Configure Cisco ASA 5505:

Step1: Configure the internal interface vlan

ASA5505 (config)# interface Vlan 1

ASA5505 (config-if)# nameif inside

ASA5505 (config-if)# security-level 100

ASA5505 (config-if)# ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

ASA5505 (config-if)# no shut

Step 2: Configure the external interface vlan (connected to Internet)

ASA5505 (config)# interface Vlan 2

ASA5505 (config-if)# nameif outside

ASA5505 (config-if)# security-level 0

ASA5505 (config-if)# ip address 200.200.200.1 255.255.255.0

ASA5505 (config-if)# no shut

Step 3: Assign Ethernet 0/0 to Vlan 2

ASA5505 (config)# interface Ethernet0/0

ASA5505 (config-if)# switchport access vlan 2

ASA5505 (config-if)# no shut

Step 4: Enable the rest interfaces with no shut

ASA5505 (config)# interface Ethernet0/1

ASA5505 (config-if)# no shut

Do the same for Ethernet0/1 to 0/7.

Step 5: Configure PAT on the outside interface

ASA5505 (config)# global (outside) 1 interface

ASA5505 (config)# nat (inside) 1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0

PS: PDATE for ASA Version 8.3

From March 2010, Cisco announced the new Cisco ASA software version 8.3. This version introduced several important configuration changes, especially on the NAT/PAT mechanism. The “global” command is no longer supported. NAT (static and dynamic) and PAT are configured under network objects. The PAT configuration below is for ASA 8.3 and later:

object network obj_any

subnet 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0

nat (inside, outside) dynamic interface

Step 6: Configure default route towards the ISP (assume default gateway is 200.200.200.2)

ASA5505 (config)# route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 200.200.200.2 1

The above steps are the absolutely necessary steps you need to configure for making the appliance operational. Of course there are much more configuration details that you need to implement in order to enhance the security and functionality of your appliance, such as Access Control Lists, Static NAT, DHCP, DMZ zones, authentication etc.

A Date with Video Chat’s Time

April 7 2011 , Written by ciscorouterswitch Published on #Cisco Routers

Zoya Fallah shared her fantastic experience of Her first Cisco ūmi Call With her dad with Cisco readers and friends, details from her description: “Recently, my dad bought me a Cisco ūmi Home TelePresence system so we could keep in touch face to face. I must say, being able to see him in my living room whenever I want is fantastic. Our first call was ideal, because his cousin Ruthie happened to be visiting from Ohio. I’d never met her before (although she says we met when I was a baby). It was so cool to “meet” her in person, and put a face to the name I’d heard for so long. It really was like being there.” In some ways, it indicates a new level of video chat.

112.jpg

Nowadays, with the development of Information Technology, video call, video chat, and video conferencing have been built around us and our connecting world. Video has lost its mystery since we can carried a device mobile phone, digital camera or camcorder, iPhone, iPad or Flip capable of recording video. What’s more, in an age of YouTube and Facebook, people can share their favorite experience and story with people who come from all over the world.

Today a typical home broadband connection can easily handle full-screen standard definition video and a good one can do HD. In addition, nearly all laptops feature built-in cameras. Indeed, video chat and video call change our daily life.

Mobile devices, however, are still a challenge because of the challenges of moving quality video over wireless networks. So network manufacturer such as Cisco, Netgear, TP-LINK, Huawei, trying to find a best solution to improve people’s video chat and call. 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, in some sense, achieved the situation on video chat.

It’s obvious that video calling and chat are becoming increasingly important. Achieving its full benefit is going to require continuing network improvement, especially in wireless. With the effort of network manufacturer, we hope that we can enjoy the convenience that brought from Information Technology.

Cisco Notes: Besides Cisco’s new ūmi Home TelePresence system, Cisco supplies different types of Cisco IP Phones VoiP to business and clients. More info about Cisco IP Phones VOIP series you can visit RouterSwitch.com to see.
